The Best Ways to Raise Money for your Favourite Charity
Many people like to give money to various charities that mean things to them. This can be satisfying and t can feel good to help causes that you care deeply about, perhaps charities that have helped you or family members in the past or even one that is helping you right now. However, the amount that we can give as individuals is limited as we all have a finite amount of money even if we get a loan so that we have more. We have a limited income and so in order to raise more money for the causes that we really care about, we will tend to need to get other people involved as well. This means finding ways to get other people donating or involved in other ways.
Fund raising sales
Selling things can be a good way to raise money. It could be that you have items you own that you could sell, perhaps having a charity online auction or something like that. This might be expensive though if you have to pay fees to the website you sell from. You may be able to find other ways to sell though which could be cheaper or even free.
Many people like to do cake sales or set up work tuck shops to raise money. These can be very popular which means that they are a way to make a lot. However, if you are raising money for a health charity then it seems ironic to make it by selling unhealthy food. You might even be causing more problems by supplying people with cakes and sweets than you are resolving by giving money to the charity.
Collecting bucket/tin
Some people choose to stand with a collection bucket or tin on the street. This can be a useful way to get money if people know about the charity already and therefore understand what they are giving to. If you are collecting for one that is not well known then people might be reluctant to give as they may not know what the cause is all about. You can explain, of course, but many people may not bother to stop and listen.
You could see whether there is a shop where you can leave a collecting tin. Having one near to a till, might encourage people to put in their change if they have any. It is likely that you will only gather coins and so not that much, but there is very little effort to ask shops to put them in and once they are there, there will be no more work on your behalf.
Sponsored events
Many people like to get sponsored for all sorts of things to raise money. They might grow a moustache, shave their head, do a sporting event or a walk, cycle somewhere or something else. There are all sorts of things that can be done and some people like to do something that really stands out so that they attract more attention. It can be worth promoting it within your family and friends, in your place of work and online so that you have the opportunity of raising the most money that you can.
Donating salary
Some people would rather just earn money and donate that. This might even be easier than the other options. It might be the case that you will be able to do some overtime and use that money to donate or use some of your salary that you normally spend on luxury items or that you save. You may already do this though and want to try something that will allow you to give a bit extra.
Raising awareness online
There are ways to raise money online. You can set up a page with a company that helps people collect for charity or through social media and then promote the cause hoping that people will donate. Some people do not like asking for money though so it might be better to just bring attention to the cause and let people decide whether it is something that they would like to support or not.
These are not the only ways that you can raise money but they are probably some of the more common ways. It is good to think about whether any of these ways are attractive to you or whether you might want to think of something different. If you are unsure then the charity that you are trying to raise money for may have some ideas. You could also speak to people that you know that have raised money and ask them about their experiences and whether they would recommend what they did or whether they would recommend that you do something different. What you choose will depend on how much time you have, how much you want to raise and what sorts of things you would like to do.
